Color Pick : Emerald

Lively. Radiant. Lush.
A color of elegance and beauty that enhances our sense of well being, balance and harmony. That's how the 'color authority' Pantone described it's color of the year : EMERALD ! And I know it's high time I gave this winning shade of green its due on my blog-space.

When I think of Emerald I think of a the semi-precious gem stone ! Deep dark forests, Lakes, Jade, Leaves, Moss & Sea are some of the most common answers that I got in response to the question - "what do you think of when I say the word emerald". Some of the not-so-common ones were : Healthy, Luck, Freshness, Prosperity & Wealth.
What I like about this jewel tone is the faint blue-ish tinge that shows up ever so slightly  within its deep green base. The luminous effect of this color really brings in that richness and energy into your space.

I do agree that Emerald is a pretty bold & striking color to use in your home. The bravest of us all will paint an entire room in this gorgeous green shade and accent it with neutral colors.

A few of us who are not so sure about having Emerald as the main { dominant } color, will follow the color trend by using this green shade in big pieces of accents in your home decor...say an over-sized painting or a rug.

And for the those who are afraid of committing to the color even at that level will use this magnificent color in the smaller styling elements like pillows, vases on an end table and such.

According to me there are only 2 ways to use this sophisticated color. Either use it with a certain amount of calculated thinking or with a very carefree attitude ! Personally I would like to use decor accents in this classically elegant shade of green with a neutral backdrop.

A few Fun Facts about Emerald { the gem-stone } : The name Emerald is derived from the French "eseraude" and the Greek root "smaragdos" which means 'green gemstone'. Folklore suggest that these stones will improve memory & intelligence ! They are also worn to enhance love & contentment. And Queen Cleopatra loved Emeralds above all other gems !

This lovely shade of green will fit into any design style that you choose ! Hope you will give this rich "earth color" a spot in your home this year. Please check out my pinterest board Emerald Expressions for inspiration & ideas of Emerald for your space.

Happy Styling !
