6 Simple Tips to Create a Gallery Wall

Gallery Walls ... I think it's one of the most popular and one of my fav' trends now ! Such an easy way to add a lot of character, interest and visual appeal to your space. It can be designed to suit any style ranging from traditional to contemporary to eclectic . When done right { OK ... there is no such thing as right or wrong when it comes to Art } , a Gallery wall can bring with it the ' Mood ' or the ' Feeling ' you want to have in the room.

Top 5 reasons why I love the Gallery Wall trend :
  1. You can draw inspiration & joy from just looking at it !
  2. It's an excellent way to Show off your passion or hobby.
  3. A super easy method to bring in color & visual texture.
  4. It's not permanent. It can evolve and change with you and your moods.
  5. A lovely & simple element to enhance your design style !

Yes, I do agree that it does take a lil' bit of trial and error to get the right look and combination. And this may cause you to be gaping at a lot of holes in the wall combined with chipped off paint ... not a nice sight at all ! { To combat this problem ... check out the useful tips at the end } .

So sharing with you 6 Easy Steps that will help you get a head start for this project ...

1) Pick your Style :

Choose one theme or direction ... eclectic, modern, contemporary, classic, casual ...the list goes on ! This will help you in picking the right pieces or I should say ... combining the pieces you want to showcase.

2) Select your palette & tone :

Zero in on the colors and hues you want to go with . It could be monotone ... or it could be vibrant with every color under the rainbow.

3) Play with scale :

Try using different sizes of prints etc. on your wall to make it interesting. Oversized artwork { always } ensures a dramatic effect !

4) Spacing :

I prefer to have even space { OK ... almost even space} all around and all through. It will give you a  look that says : organized mess ... which is pretty IN these days !

5) Personalize :

Show off your own photographs and tchotchkes that you have collected over the years. A brilliant way to convey who you are and what you like !

6) Mix & Match :

A combination of prints, masks, art and fabric on your gallery wall can add so much more character than using just prints or just fotos. Using a variety of frames also adds to the effect !

    Useful Tips :
  1. Lay out the pieces on the floor before you hang it up : Measure the wall dimensions and transfer / mark those dimensions on the floor. Once you have that , start playing with the location of each piece until you like what you see.
  2. Once settled on a layout , walk away and comeback in sometime to look at it again. It will help you point out something u really like or you really don't like !
  3. Once all the final updates are done on the floor ... take measurements so that you can hang the collection up without second guessing the location !
  4. Take a picture for reference. Helps so very much.
  5. Finally , start creating your very own Gallery Wall ...
